The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), established by an Act of Parliament in 1985, has emerged as the largest Mega University in the democratic world. Today, it serves the educational aspirations of nearly 2 million students in India and 33 other countries through the twenty-one Schools of Study and a network of 59 regional centres, more than 2300 Learner Support Centres and around 52 overseas centres. IGNOU Regional Centre at Kohima was established on 14th December 2000. Regional Centre has Ten (10) Regular Study Centres, Five (5) Special Study Centres, Ten (10) Programme Study Centres and Four (4) IGNOU CNRI Knowledge Centre under its jurisdiction. As of now, 50 (fifty) Academic Programmes are being activated. The Regional Centre has total accumulated student strength is 8,490 students registered for various programmes.  Under Kohima Regional Centre, 9 (Nine) Study Centres has DRS Terminals facility, 6 (Six) Study Centres has EDUSAT Terminals facilities and 10 (Ten) Examination Centres for Trem End Exam.
